Working with Sensitive Skin…

We receive many questions from people with sensitive skin asking about using Glimpse. Here’s a quote from our Glimpse Q&A document:

Glimpse Skin Care is designed for sensitive skin. But people have different reactions to skin care products. Sometimes the products you have been using for months and years can cause a reaction when a new skin care system is introduced. If you are concerned that you may experience an adverse reaction, apply the product to the inside of your forearm prior to using it on your face, check for any signs of sensitivity.

Starting with a test patch is always a good idea for those with known sensitivities and allergies. However, there may be some of you that don’t fall into this category. You may respond fine when doing a test patch, but could still experience sensitivity or reactivity when first using Glimpse. Here are a few things to keep and mind….

  • Glimpse, while being very “clean” and “green” is also very active! That’s why it works and why so many of you are getting great results! That being said, if somebody was previously using a skin care line that was not very active; it makes sense that their skin would respond a bit more strongly to the active components contained within Glimpse.
  • Be Patient: Switching to new skin care products, in general, can take a little time to get use to, and require a bit of patience. The skin needs a little time to adjust to new products, especially active products like Glimpse!
  • Activity does not always mean “reaction”. If the skin becomes flushed, pink, tingly, etc. that does not necessarily mean you experiencing an allergic reaction. If you experience welts, rashes, burning, etc. than we suggest you discontinue use immediately! Using Glimpse should not be an uncomfortable experience. Start slowly and be aware of your skin and what it responds best to. Here are a few basic guidelines that you can follow…
  • Begin by introducing one product at a time. Use one Glimpse product for 7-10 days before introducing the next. We usually recommend that this be a cleanser (but that is totally personal preference). This will help the skin to gradually acclimate to the active properties of Glimpse, while slowly weaning off of the previous products and ingredients that it was accustomed to. Skin will react just as much from going off of old product(s) as much as beginning the use of new ones.
  • Try mixing with Pericarp Oil. When first introducing the more active products from the Glimpse Line (aka… the Toner and Serum) it can be very helpful, initially, to mix them in with the Pericarp Oil. If the Pericarp Oil is not available, than one of the Glimpse Moisturizers will work well too (especially the Cream, due to its high concentration of Pericarp Oil). This should help to “buffer” the activity a bit and minimize the effects that sensitive skin types can experience and/or perceive as negative or adverse.
  • Educate! Educate! Educate! I cannot express enough, the importance of taking the time to educate somebody who is new to Glimpse and managing their expectations of the product. Giving them a baseline of “normal” reactions can go a long way! Chances are, somebody with “sensitive” skin can go into a new product very leery, as they have probably tried so many products in the past (most of which they were probably disappointed with). Giving them some options as to how to adjust the products to fit their skins needs, is always helpful and always appreciated.
