As the long days of winter subside and the warm weather approaches, now is the time to make sure you are in the habit of protecting your skin each and every day. Many wait until they experience their “first burn” of the season before they realize they need to be more aware of the sun and it’s rays. And while it does feel wonderful to feel those gloriously warm rays on your skin; the long term effects are not so glorious! Below are some simple steps you can follow to help protect your skin, ensure long term skin health, and still enjoy the beauty and benefits of the sun.
1-) Wear a sunblock everyday. Now, I know this is not new information, but I’m surprised at how many individuals don’t do this. Did you know that a lot of sun damage comes from your morning commute or running your kids around? Yes, it comes from the sun beating through the window of your car. Getting in the habit of applying a sunblock before you leave each day can be one of the most important things you can do for your skin. Prevention is so much simpler than correction. My personal recommendations is the Glimpse Mineral Treatment. Making this the final step of your skin care regimen will ensure long term skin health. For tips on application please visit the “Products” tab of the home page.
2-) Adopt a good skin care routine. Topical supplementation can help boost your skins natural defense to the environment and other stressors. The skin has a remarkable ability to repair and protect itself, however much of these resources are depleted through environmental damage, stress, diet, etc. By saturating the skin each day with essential nutrients (absorbed through the skin) you can help recharge your skins instinctual repair process.
3-) Internal Supplementation. Just as it is important to supplement topically, it is equaling as important to do this internally. Incorporating a quality multi-vitamin (one free of excess fillers, dyes, etc.) can help to replenish your body internally; making up for the lack of essential nutrients that so many of us simply do not get in our diets. And as many of you already know, adding as many fresh fruits and vegetable into your diet as possible, can have benefits all across the board; from overall health, to improved digestion, energy, and skin health. I personally recommend incorporating XANGO juice, as I have seen the results in my own body and skin! Try out this delicious super smoothie to start your day off…
1/2 banana, 3 oz. XANGO juice, 1/4 cup organic rice milk, 1 orange (peeled and sliced), 1 scoop favao vegetable protein, 1 TBL. organic flax seed, 1/2 cup organic steel cut oats, 1 tsp. organic ground cinnamon powder (more can be used to your liking), 1 cup organic spinach, 6-8 ice cubes. Put in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
4-) And lastly, follow the basic guidelines that you are already familiar with. Don’t go out in the sun when it’s rays are the strongest. If you do, please wear a hat and protect the exposed parts of your body with a good sunblock; one that uses Zinc Oxide. If you are swimming, you need to reapply every hour. Yes, every hour.
Respect your skin. Use your instincts. Take the time to take care of it, and it will continue to protect and take care of you.
Enjoy the Sunshine!!!
