Skin and Changing Weather…

I have had one question asked to me more than any over the last few weeks. That question is… “What is going on with my skin”? Through emails, phone calls, text messages, or just daily interactions; it is clear to me that everybody is concerned about their skin! Just as your skin transitions from warm to cool weather, so it does from cool to warm. Your skin needs time to acclimate to new products, changing weather, etc.- so it is no surprise that so many are struggling with their skin. Also, many people experience allergies this time of year and those allergies many times manifest through the skin…. leading to breakouts and dry, itchy, skin. So, I thought I would share some tips on how you can prevent your skin from experiencing an “acclimation crisis”.

1. Ease off of exfoliation: While the first instinct for many people is to “scrub” at their skin, sometimes a gentler approach produces a better result. Many skin types do need exfoliation, especially if their skin is dry or has accumulated dead layers over the cold winter months. But opting for a gentle jojoba bead scrub or an enzyme mask can be a much better choice. Be careful not to scrub at your face with a wash rag; rather use a soft cloth or sponge and rinse with lukewarm winter. Avoiding extremes in temperature and product will help to balance the skin during this time of transition. Tip: After washing your face in the evening, apply a generous layer of the Glimpse Gel Cleanser and leave on for 10-15 minutes. The natural fruit enzymes in the cleanser will gently “eat away” at dead skin cells; helping to calm inflammation and help with better absorption of the rest of your products.

2. Use your moisturizer generously! Immediately apply moisturizer to your face as soon as you wash or step out of the shower to seal in the moisture on your skin. This goes for your face as well as your body! Also, be aware of how much moisturizer you are applying. If you are using either of the Glimpse Moisturizers, you need to be applying at least 3-4 pumps with each application. If you are breakout prone, you will need to apply your “treatment products” first, however, in most cases you should still be applying some type of moisturizer. Tip: As soon as you have stepped out of the shower or washed your face, apply 3-4 pumps Glimpse Moisturizer with 1/2- 1 pump of both the Luminescence Brighten & Repair. Gently massage into skin, neck, and chest. Adding in these additional boosters will not only help to hydrate and repair your skin, but also make your moisturizer last longer.

3. Drink lots of pure water: I cannot say enough about water intake. Most of us walk around dehydrated without even recognizing it. As soon as you step out the door, or even indoors, you are losing natural moisture. Hydrating from within can help to prevent water loss, keep your organs (your skin is your largest one) healthy and hydrated, and help keep your skins natural detoxification process moving freely; which is critical for healthy skin. One of the best things you can do for your skin, or your body for that matter, is drink more water!

In summation, just be aware of your skin. Don’t “react” to any changes in your skin by going to any extremes. What your skin needs right now is a little attention and balance. This could be said for many things actually. .

As the long days of winter subside and the warm weather approaches, now is the time to make sure you are in the habit of protecting your skin each and every day. Many wait until they experience their “first burn” of the season before they realize they need to be more aware of the sun and it’s rays. And while it does feel wonderful to feel those gloriously warm rays on your skin; the long term effects are not so glorious! Below are some simple steps you can follow to help protect your skin, ensure long term skin health, and still enjoy the beauty and benefits of the sun.

1-) Wear a sunblock everyday. Now, I know this is not new information, but I’m surprised at how many individuals don’t do this. Did you know that a lot of sun damage comes from your morning commute or running your kids around? Yes, it comes from the sun beating through the window of your car. Getting in the habit of applying a sunblock before you leave each day can be one of the most important things you can do for your skin. Prevention is so much simpler than correction. My personal recommendations is the Glimpse Mineral Treatment. Making this the final step of your skin care regimen will ensure long term skin health. For tips on application please visit the “Products” tab of the home page.

2-) Adopt a good skin care routine. Topical supplementation can help boost your skins natural defense to the environment and other stressors. The skin has a remarkable ability to repair and protect itself, however much of these resources are depleted through environmental damage, stress, diet, etc. By saturating the skin each day with essential nutrients (absorbed through the skin) you can help recharge your skins instinctual repair process.

3-) Internal Supplementation. Just as it is important to supplement topically, it is equaling as important to do this internally. Incorporating a quality multi-vitamin (one free of excess fillers, dyes, etc.) can help to replenish your body internally; making up for the lack of essential nutrients that so many of us simply do not get in our diets. And as many of you already know, adding as many fresh fruits and vegetable into your diet as possible, can have benefits all across the board; from overall health, to improved digestion, energy, and skin health. I personally recommend incorporating XANGO juice, as I have seen the results in my own body and skin! Try out this delicious super smoothie to start your day off…

1/2 banana, 3 oz. XANGO juice, 1/4 cup organic rice milk, 1 orange (peeled and sliced), 1 scoop favao vegetable protein, 1 TBL. organic flax seed, 1/2 cup organic steel cut oats, 1 tsp. organic ground cinnamon powder (more can be used to your liking), 1 cup organic spinach, 6-8 ice cubes. Put in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

4-) And lastly, follow the basic guidelines that you are already familiar with. Don’t go out in the sun when it’s rays are the strongest. If you do, please wear a hat and protect the exposed parts of your body with a good sunblock; one that uses Zinc Oxide. If you are swimming, you need to reapply every hour. Yes, every hour.

Respect your skin. Use your instincts. Take the time to take care of it, and it will continue to protect and take care of you.

Enjoy the Sunshine!!!

This is a question I seem to be getting a lot lately. So, I thought I would share a few ways that I have found, and heard from others, to use these two amazing products! Those of you who have previously used the Glimpse Luminescence Repair (formerly Mangosteen Pericarp Oil) know that there are countless ways to use this powerhouse product. The stories have been coming in for the last few years and the results have been, quite simply, incredible! Well, the same stands true for the the Glimpse Luminescence Brighten. Used in conjunction, the possibilities (and results) are endless. Already we are hearing testimonials come in of the results from this dynamic duo. So here a few simple ways to incorporate the Glimpse Luminescence Collection into your daily skin care routine…

As the directions suggest, you can mix a few pumps in with your Glimpse Serum both morning and night; followed by your Glimpse Moisturizer of choice. Used daily, and in conjunction with the Glimpse Serum, this will provide optimal results for most all skin types. This is also a recommended method for those with sensitive skin or new to using the Glimpse Luminescence Collection.

I, personally, mix two pumps of the “Repair” in with my Glimpse Moisturizing Cream in the evening to help repair my skin while I am asleep; as well as adding a layer of hydration. In the morning I do the same with the “Brighten” to help protect my skin against environmental stressers; followed by the Glimpse Mineral Treatment. I have found tremendous benefits using the products this way. Not only is my skin more hydrated, but the overall tone and appearance have improved greatly!

Both can be mixed in (just a small amount) with your Glimpse Moisturizing Cream to make a luxurious eye cream. Dab lightly around your eye, careful not to pull at the skin, and allow to slowly absorb. Works wonderful for dark circles and puffiness under the eye.

You can mix a few pumps of each in to your bottle of Juni Body Lotion. This makes a rich body cream for those with dryer skin. It also helps repair and protect the often neglected skin of our body. Recommended for those with chronically dry skin, dry climates, or any type of irritated skin or compromised barrier.

At night, I mix about 1/2 pump Repair and 1/2 pump Juni Scalp Treatment in the palm of my hand and apply inside the corners of my nose. I tend to get dry sinuses at night and have always used mentholatum at night to help me breathe. This combination seems to work better and longer (it’s also much better to be breathing in and absorbing).

Mix together, in the cap of your Glimpse Mineral Treatment, both a pump of the Repair and Brighten. Gradually add in your Mineral Treatment until you have a desired consistency (generally a thin paste). Apply for a “wet” foundation or as a mask (using the Sheer Mineral Treatment) to help soothe, repair, and hydrate irritated or dehydrated skin

As you can see, there are so many options and ways to use these two products! Don’t be afraid to experiment and find out what works for you! There is no “one way” or “wrong way” to use the Glimpse Luminescence Collection (other than not using them at all). And if you have any of your own tips or trade secrets; we’d love to hear!

We have received many questions since the launch of Juni as to why it doesn’t feel like a “traditional” shampoo. Most of you, and this point, are probably well versed as to what makes Juni and other (truly) clean shampoos different. However, you may have noticed that these formulas work a little differently as well. It is definitely an adjustment, at first, when making the switch over to any clean/green (again, truly clean/green) shampoo and conditioner. And just like skin care, each individual and their particular hair type, varies greatly! That is why there are so many personal care products on the market today. So, what may work so well for one individual, might not work so well for another. Because Juni does not contain any Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) which is a surfactant, or foaming agent; it performs very differently. We have become used to certain products foaming up (shampoo, toothpaste) and SLS definitely delivers on the suds! This essentially strips your hair; giving it that “squeaky clean” feeling. This squeaky clean feeling is also stripping your hair of essential oils your scalp needs as well as weakening the hair follicle and breaking down protein (which is what your hair is). Juni does not contain any sulfates, parabens, artificial color/silicon, synthetic fragrance, petrochemicals, animal testing or phthalates. Our Juni formulas are vegan, gluten-free and eco-friendly. So, as you can see, making the switch is better for you and the environment. Here are a few tips on how you, and your hair, can get the most out of Juni Routine…

1-) Prep your hair and scalp. Always rinse your hair thoroughly with water, making sure it is very wet, before you apply the shampoo. Some individual’s prefer to mix a little water in with their shampoo. This will help with better glide. Again, this is because we use a gentle, naturally derived, surfactant rather than using SLS to “cleanse” the hair.

2-) Double cleanse. You may have heard us mention performing a “double cleanse” when using Glimpse; it is the same with Juni. Perform one cleanse to remove any superficial oil, products, etc. and a second cleanse to more deeply clean the hair and scalp.

3-). Use enough product! I cannot emphasize this enough. Make sure you are using enough product to thoroughly cleanse your hair. It should be enough to produce a mild lather. Clean formulas require a little more product in order to get the optimal results.

4-) Condition… condition… condition. When you are applying your Juni Conditioner, once again, make sure you are applying enough. Our Juni Conditioners are very soothing and nourishing to the scalp, so spend a little time and massage it into the scalp. For a deeper scalp treatment, apply the Juni Hair and Scalp Oil first or leave it on overnight for a wonderfully hydrating treatment.

5-) Thoroughly Rinse. Whether it be prepping your hair for the Juni Shampoo or rinsing out any of the products; make sure you thoroughly rinse your hair. Some individual’s with very course, dry hair types will not notice if they do not rinse as well (and may prefer to leave the conditioner in) but those of us with fine, thin, hair will notice if it is not completely rinsed out.

If you have found, or heard, of any tips that have worked well for you or others; please feel free to share them. It may take a little time and experimenting, for some, to get use to these formulas. Just like in skincare, your hair and scalp may need some time to adjust. But, in the long run, I think we all can see why it makes sense to make the switch!

Leading the News…
Paraben traces may be present in nearly all breast cancer patients.
Time (1/13, Blue) reports in “Healthland” that “researchers have found that paraben traces are present in the tissue of almost all breast cancer patients, whether or not they use antiperspirants.” The researchers found that “even patients who’d never used underarm products had paraben traces in their breast tissue.” But “that’s not surprising, say the authors, since parabens are found in shampoos, make-up, moisturizers, pharmaceuticals and even some food products,” in addition to some antiperspirants.
HealthDay (1/13, Doheny) reports, “In the study, published online in January in the Journal of Applied Toxicology,” investigators “report that one or more kinds of parabens were found in 158 of the 160 samples taken from the tissue collected from…40 women.” The researchers “found 96 samples contained all five of the most common paraben esters (forms).”
WebMD (1/13, Mann) reports, “Paraben levels did not seem to play a role in the cancer’s location or whether or not the cancer was fueled by estrogen.”

As we begin a new year, many of us have made resolutions of all kinds. Most likely, most of you have made the resolution to take better care of yourself . Whether that be kicking old habits or adopting new ones, we all realize the importance of not only looking our best, but also feeling our best as well. However, many overlook the importance of good skin care habits. I very rarely hear this on anybody's list of resolutions! However, at some point or another, it does become important. My hope is that we all realize how important it is to adopt good skin care habits and take care of our largest organ. Remember, it's never too late to start. Here are five ways to adopt healthy skin care habits from the Skin Cancer Foundation.

I want to wish you all a very happy, healthy, and abundant new year ahead.

Care For Your Skin in 2012 and Beyond –
You Could Save Your Life and Your Looks

As 2011 draws to a close, prepare to ring in the new year with skin-saving resolutions suggested by The Skin Cancer Foundation. From seeing a dermatologist, to ending your tanning routine and practicing sun protection as a way of life, here are five ways to adopt healthy skin habits next year:

1. ) Make Sun Protection Part of Your Daily Routine

Sun protection is essential to skin cancer prevention – about 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers and 65 percent of melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer, are caused by the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Since UV damage is cumulative over our lifetime, it is something to be concerned about on a daily basis. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the following sun safety tips:

Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.

Do not burn.

Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.

Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.

2) Examine your skin, head-to-toe, every month.

While self-exams shouldn’t replace the important annual skin exam performed by a physician, they offer the best chance of detecting the early warning signs of skin cancer. If you notice any change in an existing mole or discover a new one that looks suspicious, see a physician immediately. Learn how to perform self-examination and spot a potential skin cancer.

3) See your physician every year for a professional skin exam.

Skin cancer, the most prevalent cancer, is also the most treatable cancer when detected early. The survival rate for patients whose melanoma is detected early, before the tumor has penetrated the skin, is about 99 percent. The survival rate falls to 15 percent for those with advanced disease. An annual full-body skin exam performed by a dermatologist is essential.

4) Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths.

For indoor tanners, no New Year’s resolution will be as important as a vow to stay away from tanning salons. Tanners may think all they are getting is a bronze glow, but that change in skin tone is a sign of skin damage and may lead to premature skin aging and skin cancer. While it is true that melanoma risk can increase by 74 percent for frequent tanners, new research finds that those who make just four visits to a tanning booth per year can increase their risk for melanoma by 11 percent, and their risk for the two most common forms of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, by 15 percent. The more time a person has spent tanning, the higher the risk of skin cancer.

5) Keep Your Skin Glowing and Healthy

Glowing skin can be achieved without tanning. Expert dermatologists say that proper cleansing, morning and night, is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy, natural glow.

I have been using all of the Glimpse products since Xango introduced them. As of this last October when Xango introduced our new Brighten along with using Peri Carp Oil, I started seeing this flat age spot starting to raise up on my skin. I was really excited as I knew this was what was going to allow them to fall off. That is what happened the 1st of December. I was so excited to watch it get smaller and smaller down to a red spot and now gone.

Now the ones on my left cheek are starting to raise, and knowing in a couple of months they will be gone too. Yea!!!

The 1st one is starting to come off.. the 2nd one is gone… In less then 2 months…
All since the Brighten was added with the Pericarp Oil (Luminscence Repair)

Thank You Xango and our awesome Brighton product.

With the changing seasons comes changing skin. As we have transitioned from the cool days of fall to the cold days of winter, many of you may have noticed changes within your skin. This adjustment can show up differently for each individual and their particular skin.

If you’re fortunate enough to live in a dry climate (I say this with half gratitude and half sarcasm), the dry winter air can really wreak havoc on your skin!

Fortunately, we have Glimpse Topical Skin Nutrition, including the new Glimpse Luminescence Collection, to help combat the damage this weather can cause.

Just as your wardrobe will change to protect against the cold air, your closest layer of skin protection should change too. Your needs may vary from mine, but I want to share the Glimpse regimen that I have found keeps my skin feeling and looking hydrated and healthy during this cold winter season.

~

a.m.

1. I cleanse using the recommended amount of Glimpse Creamy Cleanser (about the size of the cap on your Glimpse Cleanser). This helps remove any superficial dirt, debris, and oil that may have accumulated overnight.

— Rinse thoroughly —

2. I then apply an equal amount of Glimpse Gel Cleanser and leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes. This provides a mild exfoliation that helps any additional products absorb better. I also prefer to do this in the shower, as the steam helps activate the enzymes in the product.

— Rinse thoroughly —

3. While my skin is still slightly damp, I mist over it with a light layer of the Glimpse Toner.

4. I mix in my palm two pumps of Glimpse Luminescence Repair and two pumps of Glimpse Serum.

— Allow to absorb —

5. I apply 4 pumps of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream. After a few minutes, if needed, I apply another layer of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream.

p.m.

1. I cleanse using the recommended amount of Glimpse Creamy Cleanser (about the size of your key chain’s key ring). This helps to remove any superficial dirt, debris, and oil that may have accumulated overnight.

— Rinse thoroughly —

2. I then apply an equal amount of Glimpse Gel Cleanser and gently massage it on my face, neck and décolletage. This helps to provide a deeper cleanse.

— Rinse thoroughly —

3. While my skin is still slightly damp, I mist over it with a light layer of the Glimpse Toner.

4. I mix in my palm two pumps of Glimpse Luminescence Brighten and two pumps of Glimpse Serum.

— Allow to absorb —

5. I apply 4 pumps of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream. After a few minutes, if needed, I apply another layer of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream.

~

While this may seem like a time-consuming process, it’s really only a matter of minutes. Remember, one of the most important aspects of a good skin care regimen, and long-term skin health, is consistency. Just as you would not expect to achieve health benefits by taking care of yourself once in a while, neither can you expect the same with your skin; although it would be nice!

Take care of your skin and it will take care of you.

Today, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics named XANGO a “Champion” of the organization’s cause in its newly released report, “Market Shift: The story of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics and the growth in demand for safe cosmetics.” Companies receiving Champion status fulfilled all the goals of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, a voluntary pledge to avoid chemicals banned by health agencies outside the U.S. and to fully disclose product ingredients. XANGO is proud of this recognition for our Glimpse® and Juni by XANGO® branded product lines.

As a company committed to responsible product formulation, manufacturing and disposal, we’ve made a decision to honor consumers and the planet by leading the personal care industry toward better processes. Our Senior Vice President, Beverly Hollister, has championed this cause at XANGO. While many mainline companies have resisted the move to green chemistry, the decision to avoid chemicals and toxins known to be harmful to our customers and the environment is the right choice. And, it’s what consumers increasingly demand. As the Campaign’s report points out, natural personal care is the fastest-growing segment of the $50 billion beauty industry.

As a XANGO family, we appreciate the recognition paid to our leadership by leading environmental and health groups. Yet, we take greater joy in knowing that we are making a difference in the world. Thank you for being our partners in changing lives. This is yet another aspect of our social purpose as a XANGO Nation. Together, driven by a common cause to improve the world around us, we succeed. Click here for a copy of the report and here for the news release we distributed today. We invite you to read the report and share this news with your downline and the people you love.

Okay, so I have to share with you my own little experience with the serum.

I unfortunately get not-so-fun cold sores every now and then. I know there have been many people saying they put the serum on them and it helps.I have been reluctant to try this since anything topical I have ever tried seems to make them worse.

However… I started getting one yesterday morning along with a cold and I was out of the medication I normally take, so I thought I would try the serum. Seriously… from the moment I put it on it did not grow whatsoever. I kept putting it on every few hours and I woke up this morning and it was pretty much gone! Usually the second day is when it’s the worst.

Do you even know how amazing this is!?! I have tried anything and everything and I have to say this is the best thing by far! Sorry to go off about it but if people who get cold sores know how frustrating they can be, so this is some pretty exciting news to me! I just had to share. I absolutely LOVE Glimpse for my skin and now the fact it can help with this just makes me love it even more! Thank you for creating something so amazing!

There is definitely a new excitement and buzz in the air with new additions to Glimpse Topical Skin Nutrition and, of course, its all-new Certification Training Program! If you didn’t have the chance to attend one of the new sessions during the week of GO! 2011 International Convention, don’t fret because there will be many more opportunities in the near future!

Until then, read on to share in the energy and excitement from the amazing certification trainings of our recently revamped program!

Our first training, on September 13, was hosted at our own beautiful headquarters, within the walls of the Million Dollar Club Room. The huge hall was transformed to capture the relaxing setting of a spa, all while keeping its instructional classroom feel. This hybrid environment allowed every one of the 70+ trainees plenty of room to learn and experience the full pampering package… all they had to do was show up with their own brush set (preferably the Glimpse® Mineral Treatment Brush Set), and rest was provided—right down to the warm terry cloth towels.

With the training taking a couple of hours, XANGO graciously provided drinks and healthy (yet appetizing) snacks to everyone. Every person had their own mirror and complete setup—no detail was missed. There were experienced trainers on hand, who moved busily about the room to hand out Glimpse products and assist trainees. Best of all, XANGO Paramedical Master Aesthetician Misha Hughes and Glimpse Skin Specialist Jessica Barratt were available to everyone, answering questions and providing an in-depth learning experience.

Upon completion, we held our very own graduation ceremony, where each new certified Glimpse trainee was called to the front of the room to accept their official Glimpse certificate from Misha. This eventful training session was concluded with a surprise visit by, and an inspirational message from, the master herself: XANGO Senior VP of Business Development Beverly Hollister.

On September 15, training #2 followed in the same serene footsteps, only it was held at the Salt Palace, where the action was bursting over our GO! 2011 International Convention. This meeting had the same luxurious setting as the first, and the room was jam-packed with over 90 trainees! Registered attendees lined up at the doors early, eagerly waiting the experience that 70 others had just completed.
Enjoy the pictures and great testimonials that prove firsthand that you won’t want to miss the next Glimpse Certification Training. Stay tuned for more details so that you, too, can become Glimpse Certified!

“The information and knowledge I gained from the webinar, followed by the exam, was wonderful and reassuring, but being able to participate in the hands-on training was special and I recommend the Certification Training to all who are interested in pursuing their knowledge of Glimpse Skin Nutrition. Completing this training and having a Certificate adds credibility to my XANGO business. I had nine other gals from my team who also took their certification in Salt Lake City and can now say they truly have had a ‘Glimpse’ into their XANGO future.”
— Mary Malsbury, Calgary, AB

“If you would have told me five years ago that I would be in a skin-care class with 98% women in attendance, I would have had a difficult time believing you. Since the introduction of Glimpse, along with the amazing contributions that Beverly, Misha, Jessica, and the entire team have made for our non-toxic movement, I have been inspired to get behind the cause and forge ahead in an effort to help others go non-toxic and green. I use Glimpse and have seen very positive results. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned some great techniques which are helping me to empower others to promote this fantastic product. Every leader should be Glimpse Certified!”
— Bill Moss, Goode, VA.

“Misha and Jessica did an awesome job of explaining not only the products and how to use them but also talked in depth about the skin and how important it is to maintain and protect it. The Glimpse products are unique in that they can be modified to adjust to your skin’s needs each and every day to attain ultimate results. Thank you XANGO for putting together this amazing training!”
— Tracy Remmereid, Omaha, NE.
