We have received many questions since the launch of Juni as to why it doesn’t feel like a “traditional” shampoo. Most of you, and this point, are probably well versed as to what makes Juni and other (truly) clean shampoos different. However, you may have noticed that these formulas work a little differently as well. It is definitely an adjustment, at first, when making the switch over to any clean/green (again, truly clean/green) shampoo and conditioner. And just like skin care, each individual and their particular hair type, varies greatly! That is why there are so many personal care products on the market today. So, what may work so well for one individual, might not work so well for another. Because Juni does not contain any Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) which is a surfactant, or foaming agent; it performs very differently. We have become used to certain products foaming up (shampoo, toothpaste) and SLS definitely delivers on the suds! This essentially strips your hair; giving it that “squeaky clean” feeling. This squeaky clean feeling is also stripping your hair of essential oils your scalp needs as well as weakening the hair follicle and breaking down protein (which is what your hair is). Juni does not contain any sulfates, parabens, artificial color/silicon, synthetic fragrance, petrochemicals, animal testing or phthalates. Our Juni formulas are vegan, gluten-free and eco-friendly. So, as you can see, making the switch is better for you and the environment. Here are a few tips on how you, and your hair, can get the most out of Juni Routine…

1-) Prep your hair and scalp. Always rinse your hair thoroughly with water, making sure it is very wet, before you apply the shampoo. Some individual’s prefer to mix a little water in with their shampoo. This will help with better glide. Again, this is because we use a gentle, naturally derived, surfactant rather than using SLS to “cleanse” the hair.

2-) Double cleanse. You may have heard us mention performing a “double cleanse” when using Glimpse; it is the same with Juni. Perform one cleanse to remove any superficial oil, products, etc. and a second cleanse to more deeply clean the hair and scalp.

3-). Use enough product! I cannot emphasize this enough. Make sure you are using enough product to thoroughly cleanse your hair. It should be enough to produce a mild lather. Clean formulas require a little more product in order to get the optimal results.

4-) Condition… condition… condition. When you are applying your Juni Conditioner, once again, make sure you are applying enough. Our Juni Conditioners are very soothing and nourishing to the scalp, so spend a little time and massage it into the scalp. For a deeper scalp treatment, apply the Juni Hair and Scalp Oil first or leave it on overnight for a wonderfully hydrating treatment.

5-) Thoroughly Rinse. Whether it be prepping your hair for the Juni Shampoo or rinsing out any of the products; make sure you thoroughly rinse your hair. Some individual’s with very course, dry hair types will not notice if they do not rinse as well (and may prefer to leave the conditioner in) but those of us with fine, thin, hair will notice if it is not completely rinsed out.

If you have found, or heard, of any tips that have worked well for you or others; please feel free to share them. It may take a little time and experimenting, for some, to get use to these formulas. Just like in skincare, your hair and scalp may need some time to adjust. But, in the long run, I think we all can see why it makes sense to make the switch!

Paraben traces may be present in nearly all breast cancer patients.
Time (1/13, Blue) reports in “Healthland” that “researchers have found that paraben traces are present in the tissue of almost all breast cancer patients, whether or not they use antiperspirants.” The researchers found that “even patients who’d never used underarm products had paraben traces in their breast tissue.” But “that’s not surprising, say the authors, since parabens are found in shampoos, make-up, moisturizers, pharmaceuticals and even some food products,” in addition to some antiperspirants.
HealthDay (1/13, Doheny) reports, “In the study, published online in January in the Journal of Applied Toxicology,” investigators “report that one or more kinds of parabens were found in 158 of the 160 samples taken from the tissue collected from…40 women.” The researchers “found 96 samples contained all five of the most common paraben esters (forms).”
WebMD (1/13, Mann) reports, “Paraben levels did not seem to play a role in the cancer’s location or whether or not the cancer was fueled by estrogen.”

I have been using all of the Glimpse products since Xango introduced them. As of this last October when Xango introduced our new Brighten along with using Peri Carp Oil, I started seeing this flat age spot starting to raise up on my skin. I was really excited as I knew this was what was going to allow them to fall off. That is what happened the 1st of December. I was so excited to watch it get smaller and smaller down to a red spot and now gone.

Now the ones on my left cheek are starting to raise, and knowing in a couple of months they will be gone too. Yea!!!

The 1st one is starting to come off.. the 2nd one is gone… In less then 2 months…
All since the Brighten was added with the Pericarp Oil (Luminscence Repair)

Thank You Xango and our awesome Brighton product.

With the changing seasons comes changing skin. As we have transitioned from the cool days of fall to the cold days of winter, many of you may have noticed changes within your skin. This adjustment can show up differently for each individual and their particular skin.

If you’re fortunate enough to live in a dry climate (I say this with half gratitude and half sarcasm), the dry winter air can really wreak havoc on your skin!

Fortunately, we have Glimpse Topical Skin Nutrition, including the new Glimpse Luminescence Collection, to help combat the damage this weather can cause.

Just as your wardrobe will change to protect against the cold air, your closest layer of skin protection should change too. Your needs may vary from mine, but I want to share the Glimpse regimen that I have found keeps my skin feeling and looking hydrated and healthy during this cold winter season.

~

a.m.

1. I cleanse using the recommended amount of Glimpse Creamy Cleanser (about the size of the cap on your Glimpse Cleanser). This helps remove any superficial dirt, debris, and oil that may have accumulated overnight.

— Rinse thoroughly —

2. I then apply an equal amount of Glimpse Gel Cleanser and leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes. This provides a mild exfoliation that helps any additional products absorb better. I also prefer to do this in the shower, as the steam helps activate the enzymes in the product.

— Rinse thoroughly —

3. While my skin is still slightly damp, I mist over it with a light layer of the Glimpse Toner.

4. I mix in my palm two pumps of Glimpse Luminescence Repair and two pumps of Glimpse Serum.

— Allow to absorb —

5. I apply 4 pumps of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream. After a few minutes, if needed, I apply another layer of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream.

p.m.

1. I cleanse using the recommended amount of Glimpse Creamy Cleanser (about the size of your key chain’s key ring). This helps to remove any superficial dirt, debris, and oil that may have accumulated overnight.

— Rinse thoroughly —

2. I then apply an equal amount of Glimpse Gel Cleanser and gently massage it on my face, neck and décolletage. This helps to provide a deeper cleanse.

— Rinse thoroughly —

3. While my skin is still slightly damp, I mist over it with a light layer of the Glimpse Toner.

4. I mix in my palm two pumps of Glimpse Luminescence Brighten and two pumps of Glimpse Serum.

— Allow to absorb —

5. I apply 4 pumps of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream. After a few minutes, if needed, I apply another layer of Glimpse Moisturizing Cream.

~

While this may seem like a time-consuming process, it’s really only a matter of minutes. Remember, one of the most important aspects of a good skin care regimen, and long-term skin health, is consistency. Just as you would not expect to achieve health benefits by taking care of yourself once in a while, neither can you expect the same with your skin; although it would be nice!

Take care of your skin and it will take care of you.

How should we be freshening up our beauty routine for summer?

Include a toner; avoid anything that contains alcohol. Instead choose a mist that contains soothing botanicals and bio-available antioxidants (like the mangosteen fruit from Southeast Asia) and spritz clean skin or over makeup to freshen your skin throughout the day. Topical supplementation is particularly important in the summer months when we tend to be outside for a larger portion of the day. Include skin care products in your routine that contain effective antioxidants and support your skin’s natural defenses to environmental aggressors, such as excessive UV and pollution.

Summer is a great time of year but it can be hard on our skin – what are your tips for keeping skin clear and healthy all summer?

Overexposure to the sun will initially clear breakouts, but inevitably breakouts will worsen with continued overexposure. It is very important that we care for our skin morning and night. During the day, our skin is under constant “attack” from UV, pollution, poor diet and stress. It is essential that we saturate our skin in the morning with the nutrients it needs in order to defend itself effectively. In the evening, our skin revs up on the reparative/detoxification process, and so it is equally important that we properly clean and again saturate the skin with bioavailable nutrients so that it is supported in accurate repair work and efficient detoxification.

Nothing reflects the state of our inner health like our skin. Here are 3 simple habits that make a difference in the health of your skin and body:

1. Great nutrition, inside and out.

As our grandmothers taught us, eat local food fresh from the earth—lots of organic greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains—and avoid processed foods.

Love and honor your body with the right nutrients with your food and supplement choices—supplement internally with Eleviv™ for high stress (stress plays havoc in our body and our skin). With our skin, stress triggers and aggravates skin conditions such as acne, hives, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, cold sores and blisters). Add XANGO 3SIXTY5™ for essential nutrients, and XANGO® Juice for high antioxidants. Our XANGO Juice is the best anti-aging drink loaded with those Xanthones that neutralize those free radicals that accelerate aging and cause so much damage in our bodies.

Supplement externally with our topical skin nutrition, Glimpse and Mangosteen Pericarp Oil. Juni® by XANGO is clean and safe without the fear of any toxins absorbing to harm. With these wellness choices today, you will reap benefits for tomorrow my friends….

2. Reduce your sugar intake.

Sugar causes weight gain and disorders that can lead to symptoms of diabetes. And the battle scars can show up all over your body. “Glycation” is the scientific term for the condition in which your body, flooded with excess sugars, lets those sugars combine with other molecules to create damaging new substances called “advanced glycation end-products,” or AGEs. Such molecules are the troublemakers that can trigger everything from diabetes and cardiovascular disease to deafness and Alzheimer’s.
What does all this have to do with your face?

Another detrimental effect of glycation and AGEs is causing collagen and elastin to harden, making your skin stiff, dry and brittle, and it can stimulate oxidation as well—the exact opposite of what you want to have happen. Go for the stevia my friends as you reduce your sugar. Do not reach for those artificial synthetic sweeteners. Become an avid label reader.

3. Hydrate your entire system with lots of water and high-antioxidant drinks.

And there is nothing more abundant than our XANGO Juice when it comes to antioxidants. One of my nutritionists asked Gary and me to drink 3 large glasses of water each morning before breakfast and, thereafter, liters of the purest water we could source throughout the day. I love the difference in my skin when I am hydrating from within with pure water and XANGO juice. Hydrating externally with Pericarp Oil, Glimpse Moisturizing Lotion and/or Cream and Juni lotion keep me glowing!

Joe and Caryn Morton shared with me a great new documentary called “Food Matters.” In it, Gary and I watched this valuable truth repeated again and again: We chose our health today and for the future by our lifestyle choices of high nutrient food, pure water, quality supplements and topical skin nutrition.

Knowledge and awareness of accountability is now coming full circle. But it has always been true, and it’s never been more important to understand than now. Remember it when you eat, when you supplement and when you care for your skin! Choose the best for you and your family.

One of the most asked questions I receive is, “What sunscreens do you recommend?” With so many brands of sunscreen available, selecting one that is safe for children and the environment can be difficult.

Last week as we celebrated with our XANGO Leaders in Kauai, Hawaii, I decided to do some personal testing on my family with some of the safest recommended brands.

I tested Badger and Soleo Organics on Gary, our grandchildren (ages 8, 6, and 10 months) and me. No sunburns with lots of time in the sun! For a quick easy reference for the best and safest sunscreen choices see EWG’s 2010 Sunscreen Guide.

Sofia C. – Front Royal, VA. Sofia is a homeschooling mother of 5. She has always been an advocate for using food and a more natural approach to improving health, so using Xango and Glimpse was a natural fit. Suffering from severe eczema for many years and after trying various natural remedies with little success, Sofia was amazed at the results she experienced with Glimpse.

Interestingly, what first appealed to her about XANGO was the business opportunity which would allow her to bring in an extra income for her family while staying at home with her children. However, her results with the products have given her a wonderful benefit, too!

Here is Sofia’s Routine…

When I started using Glimpse, I had suffered from skin problems for about 20 years, 8 of those years it was very severe. It as all over my body. I was doing a lot nutritionally and lifestyle wise that brought it about 80% under control. The majority was on my face, but I still had it all over my body as well. I had just started drinking 6 ozs. Xango juice daily two months prior. I will note here that I did not notice any improvement in my skin while drinking the juice during that two month period. I placed my pre-order for the Glimpse system I and when it arrived I jumped in with both feet. I realize now with what I have learned about the individual steps of Glimpse that I was not using it correctly but I love telling about it because it shows that Glimpse really works even if you are not using it right. I just applied all 4 steps one after another. I had what I thought was very severe detox (I don’t know if it was just very severe flushing). When I started, I had a lot of open sores on my face. The “detox” consisted in bright redness, burning, itching and oozing. As detox was not an unfamiliar concept to me, I just kept going for about 5 days waiting for improvement until I had to stop. I took a one week break and then tried again. The second time the result was much the same but not quite as bad so even though I had to stop again after about 5 days. One week later I tried again and while the flushing was prolonged and pronounced, there was a noticeable improvement each day. i also started to use Glimpse more intuitively. I paid attention to the steps didn’t feel right and didn’t use them on that day. One of the corrections I made intuitively, though rationally it didn’t seem to make sense, I stopped using the moisturizing cream on some days because it seemed to really irritate my open sores. (I later learned from Misha that the moisturizer shouldn’t be used on open sores because there are ingredients in it that can aggravate open sores) After about two more weeks of slightly varying use, sometimes no serum, often no moisturizer, my skin was dramatically improved. My sores were mostly healed and there was a greater even-ness in my color and skin tone.

For the next three and a half months I used the full 4 step System I regimen, twice a day with occasional variations as needed (i.e omitting one step or another) But as my skin continued become healthier, variations decreased as did the flushing. Over this 3 1/2 month period my flushing went down from lasting 20-30 min. to none at all. After three and 1/2 mos. I added two drops of pericarp oil to my twice daily application of moisturizing cream. I was thrilled with my comparatively healthy and beautiful skin but with the addition of the pericarp oil, unbelievably to me, my skin got healthier and still more beautiful. About two months later, I realized that my previously hopelessly dry skin seemed to not need the added hydration of the System I and I switched to the System II for normal to oily skin!

Now I use the System II twice daily with two pumps of serum mixed with about 4 drops pericarp oil every day. Every so often I go back to the creamy cleanser when it seems that my skin needs a little bit more exercise or if I am experiencing set-backs in my skin. In these circumstances I also switch back to the moisturizing cream. I find that the System I definitely exercises my skin more than the System II and I tend to get more flushing after using it.

There are times when I get away from my regular routine of two applications a day. Sometimes I get in only once a day and other times I have gone several days with out any use. When this happens I start having flushing again which goes away after I get back into a regular routine. But even so, my skin has never come close to what it was before I started using Glimpse. I can tell that the skin is so much healthier and stronger now that even when I am stressed nutritionally, emotionally or environmentally my skin seems able to handle it and always bounces back quickly with a regular Glimpse routine with pericarp added to it.

I want to add in conclusion that about 6 months into consuming 6 oz. Xango juice daily, (this was about three months into my Glimpse experience) I noticed that my skin condition had all but completely disappeared from the rest of my body. I was only using Glimpse on my face so it was clear that the juice cleared it up elsewhere, it had just taken longer working internally.

Q: What’s the best way to care for my Glimpse Brushes?

A: Don’t submerge your brushes in any type of liquid! Over time the brush will become weaker and water can shorten the life of your brush. We recommend that you use a natural brush cleaner (like Glimpse Gel Cleanser or Juni Body Wash) that is also good for the skin. This will help to wash away debris, oil, and residue without stripping the bristles.

How often should you clean your brushes?
We suggest cleaning your brushes once a week. If you feel you are getting excess build up on your brush, or have excessively oily skin, than you may want to do it more than once a week, to help prevent bacteria from harboring. Also, it is important to avoid sharing your brushes. If you are sharing your brushes than we recommend washing them more often. This will wear the brush much more quickly, but will help to prevent the spreading of bacteria.

Q: How do I clean my Glimpse Brushes?

A: In the palm of your hand, mix together the Glimpse Gel Cleanser and a little water (to create a nice lather), swirl your brush back and forth in the palm of your hand (you should see the lather becoming darker as your Mineral Treatment washes off). Rinse under lukewarm water. Repeat this process until your Glimpse Brush is thoroughly clean and the lather is clear. Pat dry with a soft cloth or towel. You can also mist with a fine layer of your Glimpse Toner to help condition brush bristles (optional).

Lay the brush flat on towel to dry. Synthetic fiber brushes require a little longer too dry than animal hair brushes. We suggest giving them 12-24 hours to dry. You may want to alternate your brushes when washing so not all of your brushes wet at the same time.

Dry Foundation Brush: This brush may be used for dry application of Glimpse Minerals, especially when a heavier coverage is desired. This brush makes an excellent contouring brush due to its flat, short bristles, which help to easily get into the difficult-to-reach contours of the face. It may also be used as a buffing brush to help buff excess minerals into a natural finish.

Directions: 1. Sprinkle a small amount of Mineral Treatment to the lid of the jar. 2. Take your Glimpse Dry Foundation Brush and pick up the powder with the brush. 3. Tap off excess powder from the brush and apply to face in circular motion. 4. Apply more powder for desired coverage. *To use as a buffing brush, just go over desired area using a circular motion, working the Minerals into the skin until desired effect is achieved.

Not quite sure what you’re supposed to do with the Glimpse Mineral Treatment brushes? Does the word “application” leave you scratching your head? Not to worry … you’re not alone. Even better, answers are headed your way. We’ll tell you what each brush is used for, what the best application method is for each and we’ll even explain, once and for all, what a Kabuki brush is! Look for a special informative 4-part article, coming soon to the Glimpse Blog.

1-) Kabuki Brush: This brush is most traditionally used when applying mineral powders and recommended when wanting a light-to-medium coverage. The soft, yet dense, bristles and tapered brush head are ideal for picking up powders easily and create a lovely, flawless finish. We suggest using this brush for your dry application of Glimpse Mineral Treatment or as a setting powder brush.

Directions:

Sprinkle a small amount of Mineral Treatment into the lid of your Glimpse Minerals jar.

Take your Glimpse Kabuki Brush and pick up the powder with the brush.

Tap off excess powder from the brush and apply to face in circular motion.

Apply more powder for desired coverage.

*Use the same way as directed above for a setting powder, using less of the minerals, and just lightly dusting.

This is Part One: The Kabuki Brush of the Master the Brushes series.

With the launch of Glimpse, I have had so many of you ask, “What is a safe, non-toxic makeup I can use with my Glimpse?” And I’ve looked as well. It’s difficult to find mineral coverage that is free of titanium dioxide, bismuth oxychloride, talc, parabens and silicones. My Friends, XANGO leads; we have from the beginning. And our Glimpse Mineral Treatment, available August 24, is no exception.

What makes it special? Our pure mineral blend includes powerful mangosteen actives, our BioActive X3 Complex, zinc oxide, oat protein powder, silk powder, bio-chelated minerals and our Energizing Gemstone Complex. These ingredients are exceptional by themselves, but triple-milling them together—it’s like pure, elegant silk on your skin and I can’t wait for all of you to try it.

Use our Glimpse brushes and dust as a dry powder after your Glimpse topical skin nutrition or mix with your Glimpse Moisturizers or Mangosteen Pericarp Oil to create a liquid foundation or concealer customized just for you. Wet or dry, I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do.

Sharing the story of Glimpse will be easier than ever as your healthy and beautiful skin will have everyone asking for your secret. And with Glimpse Mineral Treatment you’ll love having your face tell your story.
